What is Terra Carta Design Lab?
The Sustainable Markets Initiative’s Terra Carta Design Lab aims to lead the world toward a future of sustainable innovation. Founded by His Majesty King Charles III, in his former role as the Prince of Wales, and the visionary Sir Jony Ive, this initiative is a call to the world's brightest young minds to blend artistry and innovation in crafting solutions for a more sustainable future.
The Dubai Institute of Design and Innovation (DIDI) was selected alongside the reputable National Institute of Design, Ahmedabad (India), Rhode Island School of Design (USA), and the Royal College of Art (UK), to participate in a design competition to develop innovative and scalable solutions to the global climate crisis that seamlessly weave together the threads of art, science, design, and engineering.
In fall of 2024, winning students from each university will be selected to receive mentorship and funding to aid the marketable launch of their design solutions.

How does it work?
Students and Alumni at each competing university are mentored and guided through the journey of conceptualising their design solutions. Their project proposals are then presented to an internal jury, from where a selection of 10 winning designs are further presented to Sustainable Markets Initiative. From the selected 10, 2 designs per university will be selected where further mentoring and funding will be granted to aid their further development for a marketable launch.
